UPDATE ON THE SHRED
After the Mint 400 coming off of a second place I was eager to get another race podium. The SNORE series round one Skull Rush 250 was held in Caliente Nevada. It was the first race to be held with all the madness going on and I was super pumped to get out there! A rigorous prep after a brutal course at the Mint 400 was mandatory to ensure our best results. Testing the slug shark class 11 bug at the Salton Sea with 11 Brothers Motorsports and Empi Performance went flawless the week prior. Very minor adjustments were needed which would be made at the shop as well as another once over. Coming into the race I knew we had a solid car and the rest would be up to my co-driver Kevin Butts and I.
THE SNORE SERIES ROUND ONE // SKULL RUSH 250
Rolling into Caliente late Thursday evening and establishing a pit for the team we were all fired up. Friday morning was the prerun / fun run in the morning where we took our notes and had some fun in the process. To keep our self safe and efficient come race day this was an opportunity we didn't want to miss. Friday morning we were the first heat starting at 6 am in staging and off the line around 6:45 am. The stock bug class with 11 cars in class was the last class to take to the starting line. Lucky me I was the last car in our class to leave the line. Time to hunt!
With 30 second intervals off the line and very little wind on a duty track I knew the competitors in front of me had a slight advantage. Kevin and I started off with a safe comfortable pace knowing what the car is capable of and started catching and passing a handful of bugs in the first 30 miles. Slowly but surely others either had issues or we had made our way through the pack rounding out lap one sitting in a physical 3rd place I believe. We stopped at main pit where our crew was ready for us and gave the car a quick look over while getting a slash of gas, 3 gallons to be exact haha. Carrying the pace we passed one more competitor and I thought we had another to go. I pushed the car hard the entire second lap as I fell into a grove making no major mistakes all the way to the finish line!
The moments leading up to the finish line were very rewarding coming down "oh shit hill." A sense of accomplishment gave me chills knowing a car I built can handle some serious abuse and finish race yet another race! After crossing the finish we were congratulated by our team clapping throwing up the number 1. Confused a little thinking we were second the SNORE officials directed us towards the tech inspection area where we were the first car. Looking at Kevin and over our Rugged radio intercom I told him I think we won! After confirming we were the first car in our class to cross the finish once we got out Kevin and I slapped hands like f**k yeah dude we did it!
SNORE officials after seeing the second car cross the line being skeptical wanted us to PNG test our motor. We had won by over 22 minutes charging hard trying to catch the car we thought was in front of us. Knowing that we have a lot of eyes on our program the 1157 slug shark was built within the strict rules and they congratulated us on the win after passing all test. With this being the first race of the season we had decided at that moment to race the remainder of the SNORE season and carry the momentum in hunt for a championship!
This wouldn't have been possible without so many rad companies / friends support. 11 Brothers Motorsports build us an awesome low comp motor that I rang out hard the past two races! Zero Gladiator Tire issues, King shocks made the ride as smooth as a stock bug could be, Empi parts were proven once again, PRP seats and harness kept us comfy and safe, Full Throttle batteries kept us charged up start to finish, Rugged Radios made for easy communication between Kevin and I as well as our pit crew and so many more I owe gratitude for are listed below. It wouldn't have been possible without a collective effort. Thank you for being apart of our first ever desert race win! We are looking forward to many more in the future.
Special thanks to these partners as well for having some type of support and involvement in our program!
